JUST under half the population are under the strictest \u2018tier\u2019 restrictions to stop
\nthe spread of Covid-19 and all its strains in the UK.<\/p>\n
However, with the daily infection rate continuing to climb, many are now speculating
\nif a Tier 5 is on the horizon \u2013 but what rules would be in place for this level?<\/p>\n
Nobody knows for certain what a \u201cTier 5\u2033 would entail \u2013 or if the government would
\neven need anything tougher than Tier 4.<\/p>\n
However, a senior Whitehall source told the Express: \u201cWe are ruling nothing out,
\nthe new strain is of serious concern. Tier 4 appears to not be strong enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick also acknowledged that \u201cit may be necessary
\nto take further action\u201d to stop rising infection levels.<\/p>\n
On Christmas Eve, the PM refused to rule out a third lockdown as the death toll
\nsurpassed 70,000.<\/p>\n
Despite no confirmation, many are guessing that Tier 5 could mean a total ban from
\nleaving the house for non-essential reasons.<\/p>\n
Under Tier 4, pubs, bars and restaurants are still allowed to operate as a takeaway facility.<\/p>\n
Some think a tougher restriction will see these shut \u2013 leaving only essential shops open
\nlike supermarkets and pharmacies.<\/p>\n
Under Tier 4, you can\u2019t mix indoors with anyone outside your household or support bubble \u2013
\nbut you can meet one person outside in a public place like a park.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s predicted that if another tougher tier was to be introduced then this luxury would banned.<\/p>\n
Some have even been pointing towards Italy\u2019s initial lockdown, which saw people banned
\nfrom even going for a walk outdoors.<\/p>\n
In the England\u2019s Tier 4, you can leave home for \u2018permitted reasons\u2019 like travelling to
\nwork or education.<\/p>\n
But many are wondering what will happen if the cases keep shooting up \u2013 will working from
\nhome, and school closures become compulsory?<\/p>\n
Politco has reported that health experts advised the Prime Minister to assert stronger measures,
\nincluding closing secondary schools as well as pubs and non-essential shops.<\/p>\n
However, for now, nothing is for certain.<\/p>\n
Six million more people moved into Tier 4 on Boxing Day, after those already under the tightest
\ncoronavirus restrictions celebrated a Covid Christmas.<\/p>\n
Sussex, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire moved into Tier 4, created in response
\nto a \u201chighly concerning\u201d variant of Covid-19 discovered in the UK and a new contagious strain
\nfrom South Africa.<\/p>\n
